Committee Sessions
- Legislators are assigned to a Committee upon receipt of the final Bills.
- Only the Main Sponsor is guaranteed to be placed with his/her Bill.
- The purpose of the Committee is to study each Bill and make them ready for presentation (if passed through Committee) to the Assembly and Senate.
- Committees will meet on Friday and Saturday during the Legislative Weekend.
- There will be 5 Committees. Bills will be distributed evenly across the committees
- Education, Labor & Economic Development
- Health & Human Services
- Environment
- Government, Law & Public Safety
- Transportation
- The entire Committee is responsible for the quality of the Bills assigned to it.
- Each member of the Governor’s Cabinet is responsible for the Committee in his/her area. During the Legislative Weekend, the Cabinet members, Treasury Department, and Lobbyists will work closely with the Committee.
- Each Committee will have an Advisor assigned to it who can assist the Committee Leadership.
- Committees will debate their Bills to determine whether they should move to the Assembly or Senate Chamber for discussion. The order in which Bills are voted out of Committee will determine the Chamber Dockets.
- The Committee Docket is determined by the Chair of the Committee and is set at the beginning of the Legislative Session. The Chair will evaluate the Bills submitted for Pre-Legislative Session to determine the Legislative docket. Therefore, Bills submitted at pre-legislative session that are well written, presented, and thought out will most likely be ranked first for the Legislative Conference.
